How long does Spray Tube last?

June 7, 2022

A spray tube can last for 2 – 6 years depending on various variables or factors. High quality spray tubes can last for several years while low quality spray tubes manufactured with poor quality polythene materials may not last for up to 2 years.

Other factors can also determine how long a spray tube can last. The quality of water and the filtration system used for instance can shorten the longevity of a spray tube.

Factors that affect how long spray tube can last

The following factors can affect how long a spray tube irrigation system can last:

  1. Quality of water used for irrigation
  2. Thickness of the spray tube
  3. Quality of materials used for production of the spray tube
  4. Climatic condition
  5. Water Pressure
  6. Type of filtration system used

1) Quality of water used for irrigation

The quality of water that passes through the spray tape can impact how long it will last. Water that contains high content of iron can shorten the longevity of the spray tube.

Also water that is very acidic can shorten the affect the lifespan of the spray tube. Do not buy a spray tube because the price of the spray tube is ridiculously cheap, you may buy a low quality spray tube that will not last long.

2) Thickness of the spray tube

Spray tube that are thick may last longer than those that are not thick. The thickness of spray tubes is measured in millimetres and microns.

For example, a spray tube that is 0.3mm thick may ordinarily last longer than one that is 0.20mm thick.

3) Quality of materials used for production of the spray tube

UV resistant polythene made spray tubes are usually long lasting than spray tubes that are produced with materials that are not Ultra Violet (UV) rays resistant.

UV resistant materials protect the spray tubes from the damaging effects of the rays of sunlight.

4) Climatic Condition

Spray tubes used in cold climates can last longer than those used in hot tropical areas. For example, spray tubes used in the Canada may last longer than spray tubes used in Nigeria.

5) Water Pressure

The working water pressure of most spray tubes is 1 - 3 bar. Too high water pressure may shorten the lifespan of the spray tube..

You should always use the recommended working water pressure for your spray tubes

6) Type of Filtration System Used

The use of a filtration system can elongate the lifespan of a spray tube. Using high quality filtration system will increase the lifespan of your spray tube.

What is a Spray Tube?

A spray tube is a sprinkler like hose used for the spraying of droplets of water to plants. It is one of the components of a spray tube irrigation system. The spray tube has holes perforated at specified intervals on it.

The spray tube is also called a rain hose or sprinkler hose.
