Sorghum is mainly grown in the northern states of Nigeria. Some of the Sorghum producing states in Nigeria include Jigawa, Plateau, Benue, Kano, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno and Kano.
Sorghum only does well in the Savannah belt of Nigeria. Sorghum is usually grown in the rainy season months because of the availability of water.

The following are the Sorghum producing states in Nigeria:
Jigawa State
Jigawa is one of the largest producers of sorghum in Nigeria. Sorghum is grown in the rainy season months in Jigawa state. Jigawa has a lot of sorghum farmers like other states in the far north in Nigeria.
Kano State
Like Jigawa state, Kano state also grows a lot of sorghum especially in the rainy season months of July and August.
Borno State
Borno state is a state at the extreme north eastern region of Nigeria. It is one of the largest producers of sorghum in Nigeria. Sorghum is grown in the months of May – September every year in Borno state.
Adamawa State
Adamawa state is a state at the extreme north eastern region of Nigeria. It is one of the largest producers of sorghum in Nigeria. Sorghum is grown in the wet months of May – September every year in Adamawa state.
Sokoto State
Sokoto state is a state in the extreme north western part of Nigeria. It is also one of the sorghum producing states in Nigeria. This state produces a lot of sorghum in the months of May, June, July and August.
Kebbi State
Kebbi state is a state in the extreme north western part of Nigeria. It is also one of the sorghum producing states in Nigeria. This state produces a lot of sorghum in the months of May, June, July and August.
Katsina State
Katsina is a state that produces a lot of sorghum. Sorghum is grown in the months of May, June, July and August in Katsina state.
Plateau State
Plateau state is known is the coldest state in Nigeria. Sorghum thrives well in this state. As a matter of fact, sorghum can be grown for 6 months in Plateau State.
Taraba State
Sorghum grows well in some parts of Taraba state. In the Mambilla Platea, farmers grow sorghum in the months of May, June, July and August.
