Varieties of Groundnut Seeds in Nigeria

The commonest groundnut seed varieties in Nigeria are the Samnut series. These series include Samnut 25, Samnut 26, Samnut 27 and Samnut 23 etc.

Most of the groundnut varieties grown in Nigeria are open pollinated. They are also suitable for Nigerian growing conditions.

The following are some of the varieties of groundnut seeds available in Nigeria:

Samnut 23

Samnut 23 variety is one of the most popular groundnut seeds in Nigeria. It is extra early maturing and resistant to Rosette disease.  It does well in the Guinean Savannah, Sudan Savannah and Sahel Savannah. It has a time to maturity of 90 – 100 days. It has a potential yield of 2 tons per hectare.

Samnut 24

Samnut 24 variety is one of the most popular groundnut seeds in Nigeria. It is extra early maturing and resistant to Rosette disease.  This variety also has a high oil content. It can be grown in the Guinean Savannah, Sudan Savannah and Sahel Savannah. It has a time to maturity of 90 – 100 days. It has a potential yield of 2 tons per hectare.

Samnut 25

Samnut 25 variety has a high yield as compared to other varieties. It is extra early maturing and resistant to Rosette disease. It has a time to maturity of 90 – 100 days. It has a potential yield of 3.8 tons per hectare.

Samnut 26

Samnut 26 variety is extra early maturing and resistant to Rosette disease.  It can do welll in the Guinean Savannah, Sudan Savannah and Sahel Savannah. It has a time to maturity of 90 – 100 days. It has a potential yield of 3.8 tons per hectare.

Samnut 27

Samnut 27 variety is extra early maturing, high pod yield and resistant to Rosette disease.  It is usually grown in the Savannah belt of Nigeria. It has a time to maturity of 95 – 100 days. It has a potential yield of 3.5 tons per hectare.

Samnut 28

Samnut 28 variety is extra early maturing and resistant to Rosette disease.  It can be planted in the Guinean Savannah, Sudan Savannah and Sahel Savannah. It has a time to maturity of 95 – 105 days. It has a potential yield of 3.1 tons per hectare.

Samnut 29

Samnut 29 variety is extra early maturing and resistant to Rosette disease. It has a time to maturity of 93 – 103 days. It has a potential yield of 3.3 tons per hectare.
